The Nashville Predators have signed veteran defenseman Hal Gill to a two-year contract worth $4 million.

The deal was announced Thursday.

Gill, 37, played in 23 regular season games for the Predators after being acquired in a trade from Montreal on Feb. 17, registering five assists. He appeared in five playoff tilts without any points while missing some time with a lower body injury.

He has 36 goals, 148 assists and 948 penalty minutes in 1,070 career NHL games with Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Montreal and Nashville.

Gill played in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals for the Penguins, winning a title the second time around in 2009.
