Maui, HI – Play was impeded for the third straight day at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on Sunday as heavy winds continued to pummel the Plantation Course at Kapalua.
An official shot has yet to be recorded at the event.
On Friday, the opening round briefly began amidst rain and high winds before tour officials canceled play for the day and wiped out all existing scores. After Saturday's round was washed out, the tournament was shortened to 54 holes.
Officials hoped to get in 36 holes on Sunday but the persistent winds, whipping in excess of 40 miles per hour, caused a four-hour delay.
When play finally began, Jason Dufner navigated the unstable conditions to a 1-under through five holes. He was the only golfer under par when officials once again canceled the opening round, as balls rolled off tees and greens and hats departed from heads and tumbled down fairways.
Scores were once again wiped out. Weather permitting, the tournament will now officially begin on Monday -- the day it was initially scheduled to conclude.
Officials hope to get in 36 holes on Monday and wrap up the event with 18 holes on Tuesday.
"We couldn't even get a ball to come to rest on the 12th green when we stopped," Slugger White, PGA Tour Vice President of Rules and Competition, told the Golf Channel. "Its unfortunate but it just started off bad and got worse."
