The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Travis Snider on the 15-day disabled list with discomfort in his left big toe.

Snider, 25, was hitting .219 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 95 games with the Pirates this season.

Catcher Tony Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Snider's place. He will be active for Sunday's game in Miami.

Sanchez was batting .288 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 76 games for Indianapolis.

For the 25-year-old catcher, this will be his second stint with Pittsburgh this season. He was recalled on June 21 and went 2-for-8 in two games before being optioned five days later.
