Phillies' Victorino has suspension reduced to 2 games

Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane game suspension reduced to two games, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Victorino was the only player suspended in a benches-clearing incident against the Giants on August 5.

The incident occurred after Ramon Ramirez hit Victorino with a pitch in the top of the sixth inning, with the Phillies leading 8-2.

Victorino stepped toward the mound and Ramirez tossed his glove down, while catcher Eli Whiteside was jumping around in front of Victorino before he turned and wrapped up Philadelphia's Placido Polanco by the legs. Polanco was rushing in from first base at the time.

The teams, including both bullpens, gathered in front of the mound in a scrum while Victorino was being held back by home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski.

Victorino was fined, as was Polanco, Whiteside and Ramirez. Victorino appealed the league's decision, which allowed him to play to this point.

The outfielder will being his suspension Thursday. He can return to action Saturday in Washington against the Nationals.
