Friends, relatives and admirers are remembering former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno as a man who inspired and motivated them and who tried to live according to the tenets of his religion.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett was among the hundreds of people who attended a memorial service for Paterno on Wednesday at a Roman Catholic church in Harrisburg.

Bishop Joseph McFadden calls Paterno a man of integrity who was dedicated to his family, worked to improve the lives of athletes and the university and maintained respect for the students.

Paterno died last month after a brief battle with lung cancer. He had been fired as coach in November following the filing of child sex abuse charges against a former assistant coach.
