Some time off for the Pittsburgh Penguins could mean the return of two regulars to the lineup.
Forward Tyler Kennedy and defenseman Jordan Leopold skated Monday with the hope they could return when the second round of the playoffs start.
Leopold hasn't played since suffering a head injury on a hit by Ottawa defenseman Andy Sutton in Game 2 of the first-round series.
Kennedy hasn't played since suffering a lower-body injury in Game 4 against the Senators, when Sutton hit him along the boards.
"It's too early to say if and when they might be back," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma told the team's Web site. "They are progressing. They are doing better. They are doing more and more off the ice. We'll take every day and hopefully we'll get more healthy. We'd love to insert those guys into the lineup come Game 1 (of the next round)."
Jay McKee had played well in replacing Leopold, earning a plus-2 rating in four games. He had been paired with Alex Goligoski.
Veteran Ruslan Fedotenko played in Kennedy's regular spot in Game 5, on a line with Jordan Staal and Matt Cooke. Rookie Chris Conner entered the lineup in Game 6, skating on a line with Mike Rupp and Craig Adams, as Pascal Dupuis -- who scored the game-winning goal -- sliding into Kennedy's spot with Staal and Cooke.
