Patrick's Nationwide team penalized for Phoenix infractions

NASCAR has penalized Danica Patrick's No.7 JR Motorsports team in the Nationwide Series for rule infractions that occurred during last Saturday's race at Phoenix International Raceway.

According to a news release from NASCAR on Tuesday, Patrick's car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules) and 20A-2.3A (improperly attached weight) of the 2011 series rule book.

Crew chief Tony Eury Jr. received a $10,000 fine and was placed on probation until March 28, 2012. Neither Patrick nor team co-owner Kelley Earnhardt (Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s sister) had points deducted from the championship standings.

Patrick, who resides in Phoenix, finished 21st in the race.
