Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Oilers have extended the contract of former top overall draft pick Nail Yakupov.

Financial terms of the two-year extension were not disclosed.

Yakupov just completed his three-year entry-level deal and finished the 2014-15 season with a career-high 33 points. He scored 14 goals and added 19 assists in a career-high 81 games.

The 21-year-old native of Russia was selected by the Oilers with the top pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He started his NHL career just a few months after the draft and has compiled 42 goals with 46 assists for 88 points in 192 NHL games.
