Tis the season of the "anonymous scout." Most beat reporters rely on anonymous sources. I do quite a bit. That said, it's always interesting to see what reporters choose to quote.

Bob McGinn, who is a well-regarded NFL beat writer among his peers, always produces some must-see work this time of year on the draft. On Tuesday night, I noticed something in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writer piece on DBs that made me do a double-take.

I tweeted the quote about Ohio State CB Eli Apple out Wednesday morning and my @mentions blew up.

The quote struck a nerve. What exactly does the notion that Apple, a 20-year-old from New Jersey, can't cook have to do with whether he can be a good NFL DB? I have no idea. Could Deion Sanders make lasagna? Could Patrick Peterson make a good quesadilla?

About an hour after my tweet, I noticed that Annie Apple, Eli's mom tweeted this out.

The draft can't get here soon enough.
