Northwestern State overcomes penalties and turnovers to beat Tarleton State 17-14

Northwestern State committed 14 penalties for 140 yards and turned the ball over twice, but the Demons still managed to beat Tarleton State 17-14 on Saturday night.

The Texans (0-3) scored on a 5-yard touchdown run from quarterback Aaron Doyle with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter to pull within three points, but it wasn't enough as Tarleton State chose not to attempt an onside kick and the Demons (2-1) ran out the clock.

John Shaughnessy's 44-yard field goal with 8:37 left on the game clock proved to be the difference for Northwestern State.

Demons quarterback Paul Harris threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to T.C. Henry for the game's first score and Sterling Endsley added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to give the Northwestern State a 14-7 halftime lead.

Evan Robertson rushed for a game-high 94 yards in the loss for the Texans.
