Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki lost her opening match for the second consecutive week, falling to American Christina McHale 6-4, 7-5 Wednesday in the second round of the Western & Southern Open.

Wozniacki also lost her opening match last week in Toronto. The Dane had not faced the 76th-ranked McHale, who broke Wozniacki in the 11th game of the second set with a delicate drop shot. She clinched the match when Wozniacki sailed a forehand long.

In men's play, American Mardy Fish rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 second-round win over Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

Fish, who lost last year to Roger Federer in the finals, needed just 26 minutes to win the first set and little over an hour to win the match. He finished with an 8-0 advantage in aces, including match point.

The event in Cincinnati is a tuneup before the U.S. Open.
