Liselotte Neumann has been appointed European captain for the Solheim Cup.

The 45-year-old Swede played on six Solheim Cup teams and had a 6-10-5 record. She was an assistant two years ago under Alison Nicholas outside Chicago. As a player, Neumann was on two winning teams, though Europe has never won on U.S. soil.

The Solheim Cup will be played Aug. 16-18 at Colorado Golf Club.

Meg Mallon previously was appointed captain of the U.S. team, which has an 8-4 lead in the series that dates to 1990.

Neumann has won 27 times around the world, including the 1988 U.S. Women's Open at Baltimore Country Club.
