Nebraska downs Iowa in inaugural Heroes Game
Lincoln, NE – Rex Burkhead carried the ball 38 times for 159 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers wrapped up 7 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in the inaugural Heroes Game.
Taylor Martinez completed 12-of-22 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown for the Cornhuskers (9-3, 5-3 Big Ten), who recorded nine wins for the third straight year.
Kenny Bell caught five passes for 93 yards for Nebraska, which went 6-1 at home this season.
James Vandenberg connected on 16-of-35 passes for 182 yards and an interception for the Hawkeyes (7-5, 4-4), who lost two of three to end the regular season.
Marcus Coker carried the ball 18 times for 87 yards and a score in defeat.
These two teams met for the first time since the Cornhuskers won both games of a home-and-home series with the Hawkeyes in 1999-2000.
