Napoli has been deducted two points in the Serie A table in addition to defenders Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava being handed six-month bans for failing to report match fixing, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed Tuesday.

Former Italy goalkeeper Matteo Gianello has been banned for 39 months for admitting to an attempt to fix Napoli's top-flight meeting with Sampdoria in 2010.

Cannavaro and Grava have been punished for failing to report their knowledge of Gianello's actions. Napoli has been penalized as the players' employer.

The two-point deduction drops Napoli to 31 points on the season, 10 points adrift of first-place Juventus.

According to reports, Napoli, Cannavaro and Grava are likely to appeal the hefty sanctions through the FIGC.
