Garth Mulroy used a sterling eight- stroke lead after 54 holes at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Mulroy used a stretch of five straight birdies to finish three rounds at 15- under 201 at Leopard Creek Country Club. After second-round leader Jbe' Kruger squandered his four-stroke lead with a one-over 73, it was Mulroy who put himself in prime position for his first European Tour victory.

It would be the second win of the year for Mulroy, who has two Nationwide Tour victories, with one coming in 2011. A Nationwide Tour regular, Mulroy finished the season on that circuit with four straight top-21 finishes.

Felipe Aguilar birdied five of his last six holes to finish with a four-under 68 on Saturday and move into second at 13-under. Kruger shares third with Peter Whiteford, Hennie Otto and George Murray at minus-12.

Merrick Bremner (69) is alone in seventh at 11-under, while Andrea Pavan (68), Jean-Baptiste Gonnet (69) and George Coetzee (69) are tied for eighth at 10- under 206.

This is the second time this season that this tournament is being played. It was played last December, but counted towards the 2011 European Tour schedule.
