NEW YORK – Chivas USA will host Portland and D.C. United will be at home against Philadelphia in the first round of Major League Soccer qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup.
MLS teams get eight berths in the third round of the tournament, with six teams qualifying directly and the other 10 U.S. teams competing in playoffs for the other two berths. MLS announced the qualifying schedule Monday.
In the second round of qualifying, San Jose hosts the Chivas-Portland winner, New England is at the D.C.-Philadelphia winner, Chicago hosts Colorado and Houston is at home against Kansas City.
In the final round of qualifying, the winner in Chicago is at the winner in San Jose, and the winner in either D.C. or Philadelphia is at Kansas City or Houston.
