Mississippi Valley State capitalized on mistakes by its opponent to pound Alabama A&M 28-9 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

The Mississippi Valley State (1-4, 1-2) defense forced a total of six Bulldog turnovers, including four Brandon Wells interceptions, one of which was returned 52 yards by the Delta Devils' Avery Boykin for a touchdown. Alabama A&M (2-4, 2-2) was also plagued by 10 penalties for 125 yards.

Patrick Ivy put Mississippi Valley State on the board early in the first quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Richard Drake. Ivy and backup QB Jeremy Collins threw for a combined 153 yards and one touchdown each during the game. MVSU had just 74 total rushing yards. But it was plenty to beat the Bulldogs, who were shut out in the second half.

This was the first victory of the season and first conference win for the Delta Devils.
