Millwood shuts down Padres

Kevin Millwood tossed seven scoreless innings 0, in the opener of a three-game series.

Millwood (2-1) scattered seven hits and struck out eight, while Rex Brothers and Rafael Betancourt each hurled an inning of relief to finish off the shutout, with Betancourt picking up his fifth save.

Jonathan Herrera went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for Colorado, which had just been swept in a three-game series at Arizona.

Aaron Harang (12-5) was the hard-luck loser after allowing three-runs -- two earned -- on five hits over seven innings.

San Diego did not record an extra-base hit in its season-high ninth straight loss.
