The New York Mets placed Matt Harvey on the disabled list, one day after Monday's startling and disheartening revelation.

The 24-year-old ace has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and may need reconstructive surgery that could sideline him for most of, if not, the entire 2014 season.

Harvey got the starting nod for the National League in this year's All-Star Game at Citi Field, and lands on the 15-day DL after compiling a 9-5 record with a 2.27 ERA.
