Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Mets placed reliever Buddy Carlyle on the 15-day disabled list Thursday due to back spasms.

Carlyle has been sidelined with the issue since his last appearance on May 11. The club hoped a few days off would relieve the pain, thus avoiding a DL stint. That didn't happen.

In 11 appearances this season, the right-hander is 1-0 with a 5.63 ERA, striking out six and walking one over eight innings.

The Mets recalled left-hander Jack Leathersich to replace Carlyle on the roster.

Leathersich made his major league debut on April 29 at Miami and was with the club through May 1. He tossed one scoreless inning over two appearances.
