New York, NY – New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey was named National League Player of the Week for the period between May 21 and May 27.
Dickey went 2-0 in two starts last week, and struck out a major league-best 21 hitters. He surrendered one run on eight hits and one walk in 14 1/3 innings pitched.
Dickey joined Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden and David Cone as the only pitchers in franchise history with back-to-back starts with 10-or-more strikeouts and one- or-fewer walks.
Other players considered for the weekly honor were Dickey's teammate Frank Francisco; San Francisco's Melky Cabrera; Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto; Washington's Bryce Harper, Tyler Clippard and Gio Gonzalez; Arizona's Aaron Hill; St. Louis' Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright; Miami's Jose Reyes and Giancarlo Stanton ; and Philadelphia's Kyle Kendrick.
