Flushing, NY – The New York Mets activated catcher Josh Thole from the 15-day disabled list Friday and optioned catcher Rob Johnson to Triple-A Buffalo.
Thole was forced to the DL on May 8 with a concussion after Philadelphia Phillies infielder Ty Wigginton collided with the 25-year-old on a play at the plate during their May 7 contest.
He was hitting .284 with one home run and seven runs batted in over 26 games. Johnson, who replaced Thole behind the plate, hit .313 with one RBI in 11 games for the Mets.
New York also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Elvin Ramirez from Buffalo and designated righty Chris Schwinden for assignment.
Ramirez, 24, has split time with Double-A Binghamton and Buffalo this season, racking up 35 strikeouts in just 27 2/3 innings of work between the two teams.
Schwinden went 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA in three games -- two starts -- for the Mets this season.
