McNeese State became the first FCS school to beat an FBS team in the new season with a 27-21 victory at Middle Tennessee Thursday night.

Quarterback Cody Stroud threw for one touchdown and rushed for another and McNeese State racked up 298 rushing yards. Marcus Wiltz led the ground attack with 105 yards on 20 carries.

McNeese State (1-0), which last beat an FBS opponent in 2007, scored 24 unanswered points after Middle Tennessee (0-1) took a 6-0 lead on a pair of Carlos Lopez field goals.

McNeese State is a member of the Southland Conference. Middle Tennessee is from the Sun Belt Conference.
