Marseille lands Barton on loan

Marseille, France – Shortly after sending Stephane Mbia to QPR on Friday, Marseille confirmed that it has acquired Joey Barton on a season-long loan deal from the English club.

Barton, who turns 30 on Sunday, tweeted: "I am now a player for L'OM. What a birthday present! Cannot wait to get going."

The English midfielder joins the nine-time Ligue 1 winners on the back of a 10-year professional career that has included stints with Manchester City and Newcastle United.
