Seattle Mariners shortstop Brad Miller has been named the American League's Player of the Week for games played between July 19-21.

Miller, the first Mariners rookie to earn such an honor since Ken Griffey, Jr. in 1989, belted his first two career homers, drove in seven runs, scored four more and drew three walks over three games.

Others considered for the award were Houston's Brandon Barnes, who hit for the cycle in Friday's loss to Seattle, and Chicago's Alex Rios.
