Greg Mangano scored 23 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds as Yale defeated Brown 69-64 Saturday in both teams' Ivy League opener.

The Bulldogs (8-7) went ahead to stay, 60-58, on a jumper by Michael Grace with 7:15 remaining and led 66-61 after a jumper by Mangano with 1:56 left.

A free throw by Andrew McCarthy and a layup by Garrett Leffelman with 24 seconds left brought the Bears (6-8) within two, 66-64. Yale closed it out with a free throw by Reggie Willhite and two by Porter Braswell.

The Bulldogs led 20-11 with 9:48 left until halftime but the Bears outscored them 17-2 over the next four minutes for a 28-22 advantage. Tucker Halpern, who led Brown with 16 points, had 11 in that run.

Mangano's layup at the buzzer gave Yale a 37-36 halftime lead.

The teams have met in their Ivy openers six straight times, with Yale winning five.
