LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard has been declared ineligible by the school for violating NCAA rules, the school announced on Thursday.

Shepard was found to be in violation of NCAA Bylaw 32.1.4 for discussing an NCAA inquiry with a teammate.

The junior will miss the opener on September 3 against Oregon and will miss further games while the school seeks his reinstatement. He will be able to practice with the team during the process.

He started nine games last season and had 38 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown.
