Lottery-bound Cavs, Sixers hook up in South Philly

Two teams headed into the Draft Lottery tangle on Sunday afternoon when the Philadelphia 76ers host the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Both teams have been eliminated from playoff contention, although for the Sixers, that just happened earlier this week.

"I think whether it's a conscious thing or a subconscious thing, when you officially get eliminated, it kind of hits you," said center Spencer Hawes. "It takes some of the wind out of your sails, but then you regroup and refocus and try to take out of it whatever you can the last however-many games."

The Sixers ended a three-game losing streak Friday night when they handled the Washington Wizards, in D.C., 97-86.

Jrue Holiday led the way for Philly with 22 points. Thaddeus Young registered a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Hawes and Damien Wilkins both had 15 and Dorell Wright chipped in 13 points.

Sunday afternoon will be the Sixers' final home game of the season. They visit the Detroit Pistons on Monday and close out the disappointing campaign Wednesday night in Indiana.

With Andrew Bynum, the prize trade piece the Sixers acquired in the offseason, missing the entire season, it has been a tough year in South Philly. Reports surfaced about Doug Collins' future as head coach, although he declined to really comment about stories indicating ownership wants him to step aside.

The Cavs have dropped three in a row since back-to-back wins. On Friday, they had the New York Knicks, but couldn't close it out. The Knicks came from behind for a 101-91 victory.

"I was pretty happy with our effort," said Cleveland coach Byron Scott. "I thought we played hard and had open shots that we just couldn't knock down. That's what that team does. They make shots and they make them in bunches."

Kyrie Irving paced the Cavs with 231 points. Only Tristan Thompson, Wayne Ellington and Alonzo Gee scored double figures for Cleveland, which allowed the Knicks to shoot over 50 percent from the field.

The Cavs host the Miami Heat on Monday, then finish out the season at Charlotte on Wednesday.

The Sixers have won seven of the last eight against the Cavs, although Cleveland beat Philly at home this season. The 76ers have won three in a row over the Cavs at the Wells Fargo Center.
