Sinsheim, Germany – Bayer Leverkusen moved to within one point of second-place Borussia Dortmund on Sunday by claiming a 2-1 win at struggling Hoffenheim.
The victory is Leverkusen's fourth in five games and it keeps Hoffenheim stuck in the bottom three in the Bundesliga table.
It took 15 minutes for Leverkusen to seize the advantage after the Hoffenheim defense failed to properly clear its lines, allowing Simon Rolfes to set up Lars Bender for a simple finish.
Daniel Carvajal made it 2-0 to the visitors prior to halftime after playing a one-two with Andre Schurrle and rounding goalkeeper Koen Casteels before sliding the ball into the empty net.
Fabian Johnson pulled a goal back for Hoffenheim on the hour mark with a deflected shot that found its way past goalkeeper Bernd Leno, but an equalizer proved elusive for the hosts as they slumped to a third defeat in five games.
Freiburg 3, Stuttgart 0
Freiburg, Germany - Freiburg climbed to sixth in the Bundesliga on Sunday following a 3-0 home victory against Stuttgart.
Freiburg has gone four games without defeat while Stuttgart resides in the bottom half of the table after a disappointing performance on Sunday.
Jan Rosenthal claimed the opening goal midway through the first half after his shot made its way between the legs of a defender and past goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.
Stuttgart struggled in attack all day and found itself down two goals in the 67th minute when Pavel Krmas finished off a rebound following a save from Ulreich.
Max Kruse sealed the triumph for Freiburg six minutes later by finishing off a pass from Daniel Caligiuri.
Augsburg 1, Monchengladbach 1
Augsburg, Germany - Augsburg snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday against Monchengladbach by earning a 1-1 draw.
However, the home side was denied its second win of the campaign by Monchengladbach's Patrick Herrmann, who scored five minutes from time to keep Augsburg rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga.
It took just five minutes for Augsburg to go in front when Sascha Molders sent a looping header over goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen from a Kevin Vogt cross.
Augsburg goalkeeper Mohamed Amsif did well to keep Monchengladbach out in the second half, but he couldn't prevent Herrmann from leveling the contest five minutes from time as the Monchengladbach striker was on hand to lift the ball past Amsif.
