London, England – South Korea held on to beat China by one point in the final of the women's team archery competition at the London Olympics, keeping its gold medal streak alive.
The Koreans have won every gold medal in this event since it was introduced at the 1988 Seoul Games.
Sunday, the Koreans had a bye into the quarterfinals, where they beat Denmark to move into the semifinals. A rout against Japan placed them in the gold medal match, where they led by just two points after 21 of 24 arrows.
But in the final three arrows, China gained just one point on the Koreans, who came away with a 210-209 victory. The Chinese had to settle for a third consecutive silver medal, while Japan beat Russia for the bronze.
China's road to the final match was a long one. It defeated Italy in an elimination match, then took down the United States in the quarterfinals. The U.S. had a bye into that round and was looking for its first medal in the competition since 1988, when it won bronze.
