The New York Jets announced that fullback John Conner has been waived due to injury.

"We had an injury settlement with John Conner, which basically doesn't preclude us from bringing him back at some point," said Jets coach Rex Ryan at a Wednesday press conference. "But quite honestly, we needed the (roster) spot."

Ryan added that the Jets plan to elevate linebacker Marcus Dowtin from the practice squad.

Connor appeared in three games this season, hampered by a hamstring issue as well as a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The Kentucky product has gained 88 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns on 21 carries, with four receptions totaling 18 yards in 35 games over two-plus seasons with the Jets.
