Jacksonville Jaguars rookie A.J. Cann arrived at training camp this week knowing he'll get the chance to challenge incumbent Zane Beadles for the starting left guard job.
Cann, Jacksonville's third-round pick out of South Carolina, said he's eager for opportunity training camp should provide.
"I'm just trying to compete and challenge myself to get better every day," Cann said, via the Florida-Times Union. "It just depends on who the coaches feel is playing better at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I'll get some reps in there sometime."
After starting 51 games during his tenure with Gamecocks, Cann said he was disappointed to have slid to the third round of draft, but acknowledges he's found himself in an optimal spot.
"At the end of the day, it doesn't matter where you get drafted,'' Can said. "Some guys get a chance to play. I'm one of those guys.''
After completing the team's offseason program, the 23-year-old said he's looking forward to the contact that comes along with training camp as he adjusts to the NFL.
"There's not just one thing in general, there's a lot of stuff I want to improve on," Cann said. "I'm just excited to get the pads on and get into it. The physical stuff, there's where guys learn a lot on the field. The physical [side], that's what I'm looking forward to.
"With OTAs, you just have helmets on going through offensive plays. But during camp, it will be a lot more physical. It's a lot different than college. I have a new list of techniques that I had to learn, but I'm picking them up pretty quickly."
