The Cleveland Indians reinstated shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday following a three- week absence caused by a strained right quadriceps.

The two-time All-Star, who was batting .254 with five home runs and 25 RBI in 53 games prior to landing on the DL, will bat second and start at shortstop in Wednesday's contest at Baltimore.

Cabrera sustained the injury running out a ground ball during a loss to the New York Yankees on June 3, but had been dealing with soreness in his quad since April.

In a related move, the Indians designated veteran infielder John McDonald for assignment.

The 38-year-old McDonald was acquired in a trade with Pittsburgh earlier this month, but went 0-for-7 in eight games with the Indians and is batting just .053 (2-for-38) on the season.
