VANCOUVER – Boston and those 12 goals are in the rearview mirror. The Canucks' 1-0 win on home ice sends the 2011 Final back to Boston with Vancouver clutching a 3-2 series lead, and now just one win away from their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Here are some of the best moments from Friday night’s Game 5:
Save of the Game: Ventilated for those 12 goals in Games 3 and 4, Roberto Luongo was in a zone Friday night at Rogers Arena, turning aside 31 Bruins shots. His most spectacular save of the night came in the first period, on a Bruins power play. Luongo made the initial stop off Dennis Seidenberg’s point shot, and then robbed Patrice Bergeron, who was all alone in front.
Stat of the Game: Wanting to set the tone early and get their sold-out building revved up, the Canucks out-hit the Boston Bruins 23-13 in the first period. Defenseman Alexander Edler led the charge with a period-high five hits, easily his best period of the series.
Star of the Game: Luongo had a huge bounce-back game and notched his fourth shutout of these playoffs.
Best Moment of Game: Maxim Lapierre is arguably Public Enemy No. 1 in Boston, and the persistent Canucks center elevated his stock of hate Friday night with his first goal of the Stanley Cup Final.
Lapierre picked up the bounce off of the end boards on Kevin Bieksa’s point shot and put home the puck in a wide open net as Tim Thomas had come well out of his net to challenge Bieska.
What's Next: The two teams will board charters Saturday bound for Logan International Airport in Boston – the site of Game 6 Monday night.
