Hertha Berlin named Michael Skibbe its new 14 season to replace recently fired Markus Babbel.

Skibbe, 46, was an assistant coach for the German national team from 2000-04, and has previously coached in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht.

"Hertha are a big name in German football and the goal has to be to establish the club where it belongs - in the top third of the table," Skibbe said. "I'm looking forward to the work in Berlin

"I aim to see Hertha playing attractive football and getting ... bedded down in the Bundesliga in the second half of the season."

Skibbe last led Turkish side Eskirsehirspor and also coached Galatasaray, but left the country to return to Germany after just six months at his latest job.
