Henley wins Jacksonville Open in playoff

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – Russell Henley defeated B.J. Staten in the first hole of a playoff on Sunday to win the Jacksonville Open.

Henley, who entered Sunday three shots off Staten's pace, birdied No. 18 to wrap up a final-round 65 and force a playoff with the overnight leader.

Playing the 18th again, Staten stumbled to a double bogey, allowing Henley to secure his second Web.com Tour win of the season with a par putt.

"I'm just playing good golf and enjoying it while it lasts," said Henley.

Staten carded a 68 on Sunday, as did Ben Martin, who finished two strokes off the pace at 8-under 272. Aaron Watkins (67) placed fourth at 6-under, while Kevin Foley (67), Wes Roach (69) and Patrick Cantlay (72) tied for fifth at 5- under.

Despite the loss, Staten did enough to earn a spot in next week's Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch, which is reserved for the top-60 golfers on the money list.

Staten moved from 69th to 32nd with the second-place finish, while Foley and Martin also did enough to earn a spot at TPC Craig Ranch. The former jumped from 66th to 54th, while the latter made a leap from 94th place and snuck in at No. 60.

Martin took the place of Jeff Gove, who failed to make this weekend's cut and dropped to 65th.

Duffy Waldorf and Aron Price also missed the cut and fell out of the top-60.

Henley, who won the Chiquita Classic in a playoff three weeks ago, moved up from ninth to third with Sunday's victory.

After both players found the fairway off the tee in the playoff, Henley dropped his second shot within 20 feet.

Staten, meanwhile, rolled through the green and onto the fringe with his approach. He opted to chip from there and sent his third shot to the fringe on the other side.

It took Staten three more shots to find the cup, which allowed Henley to comfortably 2-putt to secure his third career Web.com Tour win.

"I'm going to keep this going as long as I can," continued Henley.

NOTES: Staten is winless on the tour, but has three top-10 finishes this season...The top-25 on the money list after next week's finale earn PGA Tour cards...Price fell from 57th to 63rd on the money list and Waldorf dropped from 55th to 61st.
