Julian Hayes rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns to help Monmouth beat Duquesne 28-27 Saturday.

Monmouth (4-4, 3-2 Northeast Conference) went ahead 14-0 after Hayes' 10-yard touchdown run, but Duquesne cut the lead to 14-7 when Sean Patterson found David Thomas for a 9-yard touchdown.

Following Duquesne's turnover on downs late in the second quarter, Kyle Frazier connected with Neal Sterling for an 8-yard touchdown giving the Hawks a 21-7 lead at halftime.

Duquesne (5-3, 3-2) stormed back, scoring the first 17 points of the second half and taking a 24-21 lead in the fourth quarter when Patterson connected with Sean Brady for a 6-yard touchdown.

But Monmouth and Hayes proved to be too much. Hayes capped off a 7-play, 75-yard drive with the go ahead 2-yard touchdown run with 9:40 to play, and ran for 23 yards on third-and-18 to run out the clock on the Dukes.
