Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Gomez and Aramis Ramirez smacked solo homers and the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in the opener of a three-game set.
Gomez finished with two hits and a pair of RBI for the Brewers, who had dropped four of their last five games coming in. Francisco Rodriguez blanked the Tigers in the ninth to record his eighth save of the season.
Kyle Lobstein (3-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings for Detroit, which has lost two in a row.
"He did a great job," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said of Lobstein. "Besides those two home runs, not a lot of hard-hit balls."
The game was tied 2-2 before the Brewers scored a run in the seventh to go ahead.
Elian Herrera hit a leadoff single and Luis Sardinas grounded into a force out before Hector Gomez flew out. Martin Maldonado singled to put Sardinas into scoring position and Carlos Gomez brought him home with a roller to center.
Khris Davis then looped one into center, but Anthony Gose charged in and made a diving catch to keep it a 3-2 game. Jeremy Jeffress (1-0) struck out Gose with the game-tying run at second in the home seventh.
Detroit put its first two runners on in the eighth, but Jonathan Broxton induced a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Victor Martinez and fanned J.D. Martinez to end the threat.
"We're seeing a lot of improvement (in the bullpen)," Broxton said. "We have to continue to do that."
Earlier, both teams plated a run in the first.
Carlos Gomez began the game with his blast that curled around the foul pole and into the seats in left, and Ian Kinsler's RBI groundout in the home half tied the score.
Detroit went in front in its next at-bat before Milwaukee knotted the contest again in the fourth.
Rajai Davis hit a one-out double in the second, stole third base during Nick Castellanos' at-bat and scored on James McCann's bunt single.
Ramirez began the fourth with his shot to left.

Brewers starter Mike Fiers surrendered two runs on six hits and a walk over 5 2/3 frames ... Gomez and Ramirez each have four homers on the year ... Milwaukee was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, while Detroit finished 1-for-9 with RISP.
