Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson says he was a bit anxious returning to practice for the first time in 10 months.

Golson spoke Monday for the first time since being suspended for the fall semester for academic impropriety. He says he believes he returns as a better quarterback because he's more mature and better polished.

Coach Brian Kelly has repeatedly said he expects Malik Zaire to challenge Golson for the starter's job, though it sounds as though he expects Golson to start. Kelly says the Fighting Irish are going to "heap a lot on" Golson's shoulders and he knows it.

Golson says that's the way he wants it. He says he wants to have a leadership role and lead his teammates to victory.
