It was just over a year ago when former Strikeforce fighter Gina Carano told FOX Sports that she was contemplating a return to action.
Carano was the first real women's superstar in mixed martial arts, but she exited the sport following a loss to Cris "Cyborg" Justino in 2009 to pursue a new career in acting.
Carano teased how she never actually retired and says she still trains from time to time whenever her busy schedule allows it.
"I've never retired. I've never officially said that," Carano said in March 2014. "For some reason a part of me has always kept it open. I don't know, there's a certain part of me that thinks if circumstances were right, and I could keep doing what I'm trying to make my future into, that's an ideal world. If circumstances were right, you never know. I'm very open to it."
The tease generated a ton of buzz about Carano possibly signing with the UFC and making a return to action, but ultimately the only thing the interest did was get the former fighter a ton of new movie offers.
Within a few months of rumors about her return to MMA surfaced, Carano landed several major roles in some upcoming projects, including a highly anticipated part in "Deadpool" starring Ryan Reynolds.
The film focuses on a character from the Marvel Universe who is best known as mercenary with a motor mouth and his sarcasm and wicked tongue are just as dangerous as the guns and swords he uses at any given time.
Carano stars as Angel Dust -- a mutant with the ability to increase her adrenaline to give her super-human strength.
The first trailer for "Deadpool" was released this week, and Carano makes an appearance alongside Reynolds, who plays the lead character. "Deadpool" opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.
