Broussard, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Rhein Gibson posted a 3-under 68 in Friday's second round to remain two strokes clear of the field with the Chitimacha Louisiana Open suspended due to darkness.
Gibson finished two rounds at 12-under-par 130. Gibson shared sixth place in his first start this season in Panama, but missed the cut twice and finished outside the top-40 in his other two starts in 2015.
Cameron Wilson birdied the 18th for a 3-under 68. He stands alone in second place at minus-10 at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club.
Hunter Haas fired a 5-under 66 to jump into a share of third place at 9-under- par 133. He was joined there by Hao Tong Li (67), Ryan Blaum (68), Bronson Burgoon (68), Glen Day (69) and Harold Varner III (67).
There were a pair of lightning delays on Thursday that pushed action back. The first round was completed earlier on Friday. The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday.
Gibson got off to a quick start with birdies at 10 and 12. However, he coughed up both of those shots with a double-bogey on the par-4 13th.
"The wind was very difficult. It was tough to get a good read on which direction it was coming from," Gibson admitted. "The 13th is just a tough hole. Today, you couldn't hit driver because it might go through the fairway, so I laid back a little bit, which brought the water into play. I mis-hit a 3- wood and it went in the water."
After a par at 14, Gibson birdied three of the next four holes to jump to minus-12.
Gibson birdied the par-5 first and followed with three pars in a row. He faltered to another double-bogey, this one on the par-5 fifth, to slide to minus-11. He recovered one stroke with a birdie at the seventh before closing with a pair of pars.
"Obviously, it's where everyone wants to be, but I'm playing the weekend and hopefully I'll keep playing well and see where it puts me on Sunday," Gibson said.
Wilson started quickly with birdies at one and two. After a par at the third, he traded a bogey at the fourth for a birdie at the fifth. He moved to 10- under with a birdie at the par-3 eighth.
The 22-year-old wrapped bogeys at 11 and 13 around a birdie on the 12th. Wilson parred four in a row from the 14th before closing with a birdie at the last.
"In a lot of ways, I played like I did yesterday, but I was a bit sloppier today. A couple of times it took me three to get down from the greenside fringe," said Wilson, the 2014 NCAA Individual champion. "I made some tired swings the last seven or eight holes, so that was a little frustrating, but I'm glad we finished."
NOTES: There were just 12 players remaining on the course when the second round was suspended for the night ... The third round will start at approximately 9:30 a.m. ET on Saturday.
