New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has been ruled out for Sunday's NFC East battle with the Washington Redskins.

Umenyiora will miss his third straight game with an ankle injury he sustained in Week 12 against New Orleans.

"We thought he was [making progress] but evidently he is not going to make it this week," said Giants head coach Tom Coughlin on Thursday.

Fellow defensive end Justin Tuck has missed the first two days of practice this week. Tuck has been bothered by neck, groin and ankle injuries all season, but his latest issue is a toe problem. He hurt his toe during last Sunday's game against Dallas.

"Hopefully he can do something tomorrow maybe but we will see," said Coughlin.

Center David Baas has missed two games with a neck injury and severe headaches. He has failed to practice the past two days.

The Giants did get some good news on Thursday. Safety Kenny Phillips is expected be back after missing one game with a left knee injury.
