The New York Giants signed defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy on Tuesday.

An eight-year veteran, he spent parts of the past three seasons with Minnesota and in 2010 he had eight tackles and half a sack in nine games.

The 12th overall pick of the 2003 draft by St. Louis, he has totaled 125 tackles and 8 1/2 sacks over 86 games with St. Louis, Chicago, Jacksonville and Minnesota.

In another move on Tuesday, the team placed defensive back Terrell Thomas on injured reserve, ending his season prematurely after he tore his right ACL in Monday's preseason victory over Chicago.

He was entering his fourth season in the NFL and last year saw him play in all 16 games, starting 15, and totaled 101 tackles, one sack, five interceptions and 21 passes defensed.

Also, the team waived/injured cornerback Brian Witherspoon, who also tore his ACL on Monday, and wide receiver Sam Giguere.
