The New York Giants signed linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka to a multi-year contract extension on Friday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Originally drafted as a defensive end in 2006, Kiwanuka switched to linebacker in 2007, returned to end in 2008 and 2009 and then rejoined the linebacking core in 2010.

Kiwanuka, who was limited to three games in 2010 due to a herniated disc in his neck, registered a career-high 81 tackles to go with 3 1/2 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles last season.

Over the course of his seven-year career, all with the Giants, the 29-year-old Boston College product has 339 tackles, 17 sacks, three interceptions, nine forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
