The New York Giants have signed veteran defensive linemen Mike Patterson.

The 29-year-old Patterson, a first-round draft pick by the Eagles, had spent the last eight seasons in Philadelphia. He has 16 1/2 career sacks.

Patterson played in only five games last season. He was diagnosed with a rare brain condition called arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and had surgery in January 2012.

This is the second ex-Eagle defensive lineman the Giants have recently signed. They inked Cullen Jenkins last month.
