Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Drake University assistant Rick Fox was promoted to the Bulldogs' head coaching position after Chris Creighton resigned to accept the top job at Eastern Michigan on Wednesday.

Creighton won two Pioneer Football League championships and had a 44-22 record in six seasons at Drake. Fox, a veteran coach with 27 years of experience, was a member of Creighton's staff for those six seasons as the assistant head coach while also coaching the Bulldogs' offensive line and special teams units.

In 2010, Fox was named the FCS assistant coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association.

"He and Chris Creighton have worked together to build a culture of integrity and excellence in our football program," Drake athletics director Sandy Hatfield Clubb said, "and he is the perfect person to lead the Bulldogs into a new era at Drake University. Rick brings experience, knowledge and a deep sense of caring to his work. I am excited for the future of our program under his leadership."

Drake finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the PFL this past season.
