If New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes can drive a golf ball like he rips baseballs, then the professional golf scene had better watch out.
After revealing earlier this week that his sole hobby other than playing baseball for the Mets is playing golf occasionally before night games, Cespedes took it a step further in a piece with the New York Daily News by divulging that he has plans of playing golf professionally in the future.
"I've been thinking about it. If there is an opportunity to play professionally later, maybe not PGA, but I would like to play golf professionally," the 29-year-old outfielder said.
Cespedes says that he only took up golf recently but nevertheless dazzles seasoned golfers on the course.
"I've been playing golf for only a year and a half," he said. "Some people who have been playing golf for years and they learn that I've only played a year and a half, they can't believe it and they say 'Incredible!'"
Anyone who has ever seen the Cuban sensation hit a baseball knows that when he makes contact with any round object, it's going a long way.
How long on a golf course, you ask?
According to a Mets beat writer, tremendously long.
From what we've seen from Cespedes in his four years in MLB, we have no reason to doubt that he can absolutely mash a golf ball over 400 yards.
As for his short game, well, we'll have to wait for a testimony on that.
