One day after former manager Jorginho left Figueirense to take a job in Japan, the club has announced that Branco will take charge of the team.

The 47-year-old ended his playing career in 1998 and has since overseen the youth development program in Brazil before spending two years in charge of the youth side at Fluminense.

Branco was a member of Brazil's 1994 World Cup winning squad and he inherits a team that finished seventh in the league table last season with 58 points from 38 matches.
