Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed David Ferrer beat Fabio Fognini to capture the title at the Copa Claro tennis event for the third consecutive year.

The world No. 5 Ferrer posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over the second-seeded Italian in Sunday's final on the red clay at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

The Spaniard had lost seven straight finals since successfully defending his Buenos Aires title against Stanislas Wawrinka last year. The win gave Ferrer his third three-peat at a tournament, adding to reigns at Acapulco (2010-12) and Auckland (2011-13).

Fognini reached the final at a fifth straight clay-court event. He won in Vina del Mar last week.

Ferrer has yet to lose in seven career matches against Fognini.
