Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Eric Fehr posted a goal and an assist as the Washington Capitals took a 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Alex Ovechkin, Troy Brouwer, Karl Alzner and Nate Schmidt all scored for the Capitals, who have won three of their last four. Braden Holtby stopped 34 shots in the win.

"We came out strong and that's the way you want to start games," said Fehr. "We did a real good job of getting the puck out of our zone and keeping it deep in theirs. It was a pretty good win."

Roman Josi had a goal and an assist while Eric Nystrom scored the other goal for the Predators, who have dropped five straight. Marek Mazanec allowed all five goals on 33 shots.

"It's paying attention to details, it's goaltending, it's not taking advantage of chances," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "I can't fault the work ethic because the guys are working hard, we're just struggling right now."

The Capitals scored at 6:44 of the first period as Brouwer's backhand found the back of the net for his sixth of the year.

Washington took a 2-0 lead at 13:09 of the first on the power play as a left circle faceoff saw the puck come back to Ovechkin, who blasted a big slapper that beat Mazanec for his league-leading 22nd of the season.

It was a 3-0 game three minutes later as a slapper from the high slot by Mike Green was redirected in by Alzner for his first of the season.

Nashville got a goal back with 23 seconds to play in the opening frame as Josi beat Holtby with a wrister for his first of the season.

After a scoreless second period, which saw Holtby make 12 stops and Mazanec six, the Capitals took a 4-1 lead at 3:29 when Schmidt scored his first NHL goal with a slap shot past Mazanec.

Just 23 seconds later, the Preds made it a two-goal game thanks to Nystrom's fifth of the season.

Fehr, though, put the game out of reach with 5:10 left on his fourth of the season.
